Hello world!

Our first president

Welcome to the brand new sparkling Socratic Society Blog.

This is where it all happens. News. Discussions. Pictures. Memories. Philosophical breakthroughs. Ok – maybe not yet, but we’ve only just got it up and running. And we need you. With your help and contributions, we can make this Blog a place to spend your summers. Whatever that means.

The Socratic Society is the philosophy society of the University of New South Wales. We were established some time before 1955, but who can remember back that far? We’re a student-run body, affiliated with the Department of Philosophy. We also have a small website at http://geocities.com/socraticsociety/ but this blog is where the fun happens.

Why “The Socratic Society”? We don’t know – but maybe that’s the point…

  1. It takes more than a man to build an anthill.

  2. “I am a citizen of the world” Socrates. ( Who else?)

I’m so glad to see the blog up and running, and I think Socrates would be proud!

  3. Reminds me of when my wife got a call from a previous president of the Socratic Society who said his name was Roger Why. Appropriate, she thought… (Actually he was Roger White but didn’t have a very clear voice… )

  4. Yay, we have a blog!

    Go team!

  5. Wow, you know you’re in the 21st century when there are philosophical blogs
